Have you ever noticed that Pedro Pascal always has a go-to pose for photos? From a red carpet event on Friday (April 28), Pascal finally revealed to his The Last of Us co-star Bella Ramsey why he places his left hand on his upper torso when photographers start snapping away.

During her exchange with Pascal, Ramsey noticed Pascal’s unique hand position and reacted by patting his hand and replicating the pose herself. When Pascal saw what she did, he responded.

“You know why?” he asked Ramsey. “It’s because my anxiety is right here.” Ramsey nodded and leaned in to put her head on his chest before the photos continued, cementing that these two truly are Joel and Ellie.

According to HuffPost, Pascal has been using the pose as a coping mechanism for about 20 years. He even did it at the 2023 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) when he broke the internet by wearing a red Valentino trench coat, matching shirt, black tie, military boots, and black shorts.

The pose has also been captured at other events over the years, including in 2005 with his longtime friend Sarah Paulson.

After the reveal of the significance of his pose, Pascal fans were quick to comment on the “vulnerable” moment he shared with his co-star.

Many fans could relate to what he was saying about anxiety, as it humanizes the actor in question but also makes us feel less alone when it comes to the complexities of our own mental health.

Currently, Pedro Pascal is in final talks to join the cast of a sequel to the Oscar-winning 2000 film Gladiator alongside Oscar nominees Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan and Oscar winner Denzel Washington, among others.
