Rodner Figueroa’s recent racist comments about Michelle Obama on El Gordo y la Flaca set off a media firestorm that resulted in his dismissal from the network, and a flood of debates and think pieces about the state of racial diversity in Hispanic media. The women of The View weighed in yesterday, and didn’t all see eye to eye on the issue. Surprisingly, Raven Symone actually defended Figueroa, claiming that because he voted for Obama his remarks were likely not ‘racist-like’.
To which Rosie Perez sassily fired back:“Oh please!That’s like saying, ‘I’m not a racist, but I have black friends.’” As the Afro-Latina representative on the panel, she reminded everyone that racism is a real issue in our community.
