The success of Wednesday means we will be seeing more of the character – with the Jenna Ortega-led show set to return for a Season 2. But that’s not all, because Bloomberg is reporting Netflix is also interested in moving forward with a spinoff centered around Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen.

Wednesday, based on the characters from The Addams Family, is Netflix’s most popular English-language show ever, after surpassing Stranger Things. This makes it intriguing for the streamer when it comes to spinoffs, particularly as the characters are already well-known and popular with audiences.

Armisen only appeared in one episode of Wednesday – episode 7, titled “If You Don’t Woe Me by Now,” – but he truly committed to the role, even shaving his head to embody Uncle Fester. In the episode, we learn that Uncle Fester’ is in town to check on his niece, of course, but he is also “laying low” for a few days before his next job in Boston.

Nothing is set in stone yet, according to the report. Talent still needs to be locked in, and most importantly, a story needs to be figured out. But there’s an interest on the part of Netflix to capitalize on the success of Wednesday, and Uncle Fester seems to be an intriguing place to start for the streamer, who is looking to do multiple shows set in the same universe.

Better known for his run on SNL from 2002 to 2013, Armisen recently co-starred and served as writer and executive producer on Los Espookys, which he co-created. Wednesday Season 2 is set to begin filming on April 2024, with Jenna Ortega, who recently departed the role of Tara Carpenter on Scream, returning to the titular role of Wednesday Addams.
