The resemblance between Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith has delighted the Internet for years, a fact that brought them together in 2014 for a head-to-head drum duel on The Tonight Show. Along the way, Ferrell and Smith have become compas, and now the duo will host a joint quinceañera on April 29 at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium.
The proceeds for the Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceañera will benefit Cancer for College (Ferrell’s charity) and the Silverlake Conservatory of Music (Flea’s non-profit organization).
“I have only one great regret in life and it’s that I never actually celebrated my quinceañera,” Ferrell said in a statement, according to Consequence of Sound. “I’d like to think it was just a simple oversight by my mother, but there has been a void inside my for many years. Growing up on the mean streets of Irvine, California, I have vivid memories of all my friends celebrating their quinceañera. Well, on April 29 at the Shrine Auditorium, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a bunch of other really talented comedians and musicians by my side, we are going to right that wrong, and everyone is invited.”
Based on his quotes, we’re assuming Ferrell will wear a puffy, unwieldy dress and switch from sneakers to heels – because otherwise it’s not really clear how anything about this event will resemble an actual quince. But mostly, his statement raised more questions than it answered (like, why is there a piñata on the flyer – do they think there are piñatas at every Latino event?)
