Willy Chavarria’s visionary designs are coming to a mall near you. On Tuesday (March 23) Spanish retailer ZARA announced an exclusive partnership with Willy Chavarria to launch a collection that brings the Mexican-American designer’s influential designs to the global retailer.
The VATÍSIMO collection includes garments and accessories for everyone, including menswear, womenswear, and accessories that will range from $25 to $530. The wide assortment offers clothing options for everyone, with structured silhouettes such as blazers and tailored trousers, to loungewear and worksuits. The new line makes reference to American workwear, while also evoking the leisure of past decades.
The ready-to-wear collection VATÍSIMO, lives up to its colloquial superlative, Vato. The term is a popular chicano slang, used to reference a homie or a loved one. The collection views this name as a term of endearment, zooming in on personal bonds, community pride, and the power of cultural roots.
The VATÍSIMO collection also includes cinematic marketing, including a short film that stars Christy Turlington Burns and Alberto Guerra. In the short film, the actors are involved in a romantic entanglement, appearing as actors in a swoony telenovela reminiscent of scenes we all grew up watching.
The collection includes signature Chavarria elements, including precise tailoring and strong silhouettes. Materials will also range from Italian fabrics to leather, denim, jerseys, and knits.
Zara’s collaboration with Willy Chavarria arrives during a pivotal change in the Spanish retailer’s market strategy. The fast-fashion retailer is elevating its brand and product marketing by raising prices, offering higher-quality pieces and investing in the shopping experience. Just last week, the retailer also announced a partnership with British fashion designer John Galiano.
The VATÍSIMO collection will launch on Thursday, March 26 at select stores and on Zara.com.
