As Yalitza Aparicio’s star has risen, she has not forgotten where she comes from. The Roma actress has repeatedly paid tribute to her community. Recently, she headed to Colegio de Bachilleres de Oaxaca in Tlaxiaco, her hometown, to donate laptops to Mixteco students. Yalitza, who was a teacher before she started acting, donated nine laptops to help support the students’ work.

The visit was pretty low-key and though the school knew that she might show up, the students had no idea, according to Excelsior. When she did arrive, the school had a certificate ready to hand Yalitza.

Avel Ortiz Barrios captured the visit on his Facebook, with a message that thanked her for donating the laptops to the students.
