Mezy Beauty is a hot mess, and that’s just how they like it. Well known online for its chrome packaging and hot-girl concept, this Puerto Rican-owned makeup brand is well worth the hype. It was founded by Melodie Cristal Rodríguez (best known by her username Melolops), the indie popstar and makeup artist who’s iconic for her red hair and maximalist dark style.
Before Mezy Beauty though, there was ByMelolops. You might remember it for its viral (and insanely pigmented) water-activated ink eye liners and colorful eyeshadow palettes. They were beloved by the online makeup-obsessed community. But then, in October 2024, a tease for a rebrand was announced. This might have been a shock for fans, but Melodie had the idea for it almost since its inception.
“I created a makeup line under my own username. So, it was by Melops, literally by me. And I opened that up [when] I was literally 16. I knew eventually I was going to change the name because I want it to be like a thing for years, and I knew that for it to be a thing, it [couldn’t] be under my username,” Melodie told Remezcla. “The concept [for the re-brand] was like I wanted it to represent me. And in looking for that representation, I was like well I’m so messy, so let’s just do that.”
Mezy Beauty is doing something different, and fearlessly pulling it off. Melodie and her best friend and business partner Gabriela Alejandra even converted their living room into a content room and showroom for the brand. And when we visited it was docked out in modern silver details, industrial-looking shelves, and a center-piece of Mezy’s logo over a couch.

They don’t just work on the brand, they are the brand. Authentically.
“We’re in this internet era of everything being extra niche, but sometimes there’s this really big sense of not being able to find your own aesthetic in between all the noise,” Gabriela told Remezcla.
Melodie and Gabriela were also frustrated by the “clean girl trend,” and wanted to bring back the grunge, party girl look from the late 2000s and early 2010s — think Jenny from Gossip Girl and Effy from Skins. And they were inspired by (or use as reference) brands like Raga Malak and Isamaya Beauty. They also shouted out Necromancy Cosmetica, another Puerto Rican-owned and based brand — best known for their gothic theme and weird-girl shades of lipsticks.

“There’s a huge community of people that are really trying to be non-conformist, and some amazing designers and creatives out there. We’re just forming our little corner of the internet, just being maximal,” Melodie said.
The first thing you’ll notice about Mezy’s products is the packaging. From afar, it’s a sleek chrome that simply screams cool girl. When you’re holding it in your hands, it’s heavy heavy. It feels more than substantial without adding weight to your bag. It’s truly unlike any beauty product I’ve held before—and I’m a beauty writer.
“For me, I wanted my everyday products to be so cute, so aesthetic, and curated in my purse. So, I need to have a blush that’s literally like a statement piece that I can pull it out and people are going to be like, ‘what is that?’” Melodie said. And that’s exactly what I thought when I saw the blush on the brand’s socials.
The blush, with its slide-to-open lid and heavy chrome packaging, is a creamy formula with a satin glowy finish and comes in two shades—a cool-toned baby pink and a deep purple wine. “It’s not too glossy, so it won’t literally melt off your skin. It’ll settle. It’ll stay. I’ve slept with that blush, bro. It’s not going anywhere,” Melodie said. The formula is made with Jojoba oil, Vitamin E, Macadamia seed oil, and synthetic beeswax so it’s blendable and soft-to-the-touch.
The Zoaked Lip Fusion is a gloss-oil hybrid that’s non-sticky (important) and smells deliciously like cherries (very important). Made with Jojoba oil, Vitamin E, and Macadamia oil, the gloss feels as delicious as it smells and comes in four subtle shades—a clear, a light hot pink, deep hot violet, and a deep red wine. “It’s a fusion. It’s an oil gloss hybrid, so it’ll nourish. You can wear it literally all day, keep reapplying, and it’s not gonna damage your lips,” Melodie said.
Everyone knows the cream blush and lip oil/gloss has been trending in the last year, but Mezy has been working on perfecting the formulations for these products for years — before the trend even began. “Me and Gaby pride ourselves on being able to not fully predict the market, but kind of predict the market,” Melodie said. “We’ve been working on these blushes and lip glosses for literally three years, so even before it was a thing. We were there. We were formulating them. We were getting them ready.”
With such a unique concept, Mezy stands out from the rest — not just in the overall beauty scene, but amongst Latina beauty brands specifically. Because of that, people assume they’re based in the United States. Mezy wants to make it clear they’re proud to be Boricuas and based entirely in Puerto Rico, but they shouldn’t lower their high-production concept and ahead-of-the-curve products to “prove” that to people.
“As a Latina brand, I think that there’s a societal pressure that if you’re not constantly in a Latina aesthetic that you’re not advocating for your culture,” Gabriela said. “So, a lot of people when they see our brand they think that we’re United-States-based, just because they don’t instantly see like tropical colors and like a parrot.”
Mezy Beauty is proving Latina beauty brands don’t need to sacrifice their creativity in the name of marketing themselves to an audience. Authenticity speaks volumes, and there are always people ready to listen. “It comes back to the community aspect of Mezy, because literally messy is all about the community and the messy girls. So, for us, we just want that community to be united. We want to be able to create a safe space for them,” Melodie said.
So, what’s next for Mezy Beauty?
Well, if you’ve seen their socials, the lore is they’re on a limited-time. Before they even launched their debut collection, the brand got sued. Instead of letting that get them down, they made it their campaign. Mezy Beauty will end at the end of September, two months after their products launched. But, don’t worry. They’re not going anywhere… technically.
Another re-brand is on the horizon. But while they’ll have a new name, the concept of the messy hot party girl, the incredible formulas, innovative packaging, and the community they’ve built will remain. And we couldn’t be more excited to see it.
