Though this year in pop culture we saw the rise and fall of fidget spinners, everyone from Meek Mill to Lebron James participating in the #KrippyKushChallenge, and the endless creativity of pinmakers, 2017 was a highly turbulent year where politics touched every part of our lives. As such, this was the year political tees became a uniform.

But it wasn’t just strong messaging that defined our style this year. In 2017, we saw stylish Latinxs from all walks of life refusing to subscribe to gender binary rules and mixing and matching patterns like pros. Gold nameplates, hoops, and chains still held down the fort, while Dickies and tinted glasses that took 2000s-era chongas down memory lane made a comeback. No matter what our community wore this year, they reminded the fashion industry that style is made not bought.
