Open Estudios Puts Latina Creatives Center Stage

Latina creatives have influenced the visual arts for centuries by being part of producing what we see in galleries, music videos, magazines, and even the clothes we wear. However, women in creative industries are still underrepresented across creative fields.

In the US, only 24% of women artists are shown at art fairs. Meanwhile, in the advertising industry, only 11% of women are creative directors and, in the fashion industry, out of 50 major fashion companies, just 7 are run by women. This does not take into account an additional layer of struggles that Latinas face in these industries.

Remezcla’s Open Estudios is a video series that puts Latina visual artists in center stage.

In these short four-minute videos, ten artists take us to their most intimate space of creativity and give us a breakdown of their practice while we conduct a meaningful conversation on topics such as their art in relation to our current political moment, the state of social media, their selected industries and the themes in their work.
