As an enthusiast of documenting diverse subcultures, attending Mexican indie artist Bratty‘s recent show in CDMX was a unique experience that inspired me to capture it one way or another, and my camera lens led me to an unexpected subject: her fans. Hailing from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Bratty, an exceptionally talented singer-songwriter, has cultivated a unique and devoted fan base — one like I’ve never seen before.

This unique fandom aligns with the artist’s distinctive sound and lyrics, encompassing a range of genres from folk to emo punk. In an era where the boundary between the digital and the analog is fading, Bratty’s fandom stands as a rare gem, embodying a genuine and authentic passion. Beyond the sheer beauty of the concert itself — given the synergy between Bratty and her fans — I was captivated by the opportunity to document her fans’ aesthetics and vibrant energy.

Witnessing this remarkable display of fandom was truly extraordinary, particularly in the wake of the pandemic that left many feeling disconnected from their favorite acts. The resilience and passion exhibited by Bratty’s fans served as a testament to the enduring power of music and community.

Observing the ever-growing diversity and boundless artistic expressions within the vibrant landscape of CDMX left me inspired. The affinity I felt with these fans was undeniably profound, and they have undoubtedly carved a special place in my heart. Reflecting on this experience, I can only hope to witness and celebrate more of this unique fanfare that rests in a creative spirit.
