PHOTOS: This Brazilian Photographer Captures the Power of Fútbol in Cuba

Gabriel Uchida

Soccer is spectacular in its capacity to bring people together regardless of politics, race, social, and economic differences. Give people a ball, and something spontaneous and beautiful will come of it.

Over the course of his journeys in Cuba, Brazilian photographer Gabriel Uchida encapsulated the essence of the world’s beautiful game in a truly stunning fashion. A young girl running her hand along a rusty fence in front of empty bleachers, a team’s heartfelt embrace, an antique car with a Barça logo on proud display on the trunk, a young man with a ball at his feet in the streets of Havana.

This is fútbol in Cuba. Uchida’s images are striking in their ability to demonstrate the power that fútbol has in the everyday lives of the Cuban people. Check out some of Uchida’s photographs below, and follow this link to see more of his work.
