NFL Mexico City’s flag football ambassador and top quarterback Diana Flores, is known for her powerful skills on the football field and her passion for empowering young women and girls through sports. Inspired by her father who formerly played high school and college football, Flores started playing flag football at 8 years old in her home city. On the field, she learned the importance of teamwork and quickly discovered the “boxes” people put young girls in regarding sports and physical aptitude. Through her journey, the Mexico City native realized the impact she would have on young women who would play a competitive sport following her. She also explained the important lesson she learned through the game.
“For me, it was all about teamwork. It is a sport that has always challenged me and still does now. It has challenged me to explore different facets of myself…Also, having the opportunity to connect with other women, to break all those barriers around girls and sports out there,” she said. “All those things made me fall in love with flag football, especially, when I get to not only demonstrate myself to the world that those “no’s” were not true,” she explained.
“Somehow I think we underestimate ourselves, even if we don’t want to, we just do. Flag football has given me the opportunity to challenge myself and realize that I can do more and overcome more situations than I think I can. The lesson I learned through football is that we [women] are more powerful than we think. So that has allowed me to trust in myself and have more confidence in my goals too,” she added.
Eighteen years later, the champion quarterback earned herself a championship in 2021, playing in the World Cup, becoming a gold medalist, and working alongside First Lady Jill Biden and the NFL as Mexico City’s flag football ambassador. Outside of her long list of achievements, Flores has also discovered her skin’s full potential, achieving clear skin on and off the field and she shared how she manages it.
