NFL Mexico City’s flag football ambassador and top quarterback Diana Flores, is known for her powerful skills on the football field and her passion for empowering young women and girls through sports. The 25-year-old is well-versed in what it takes to overcome the judgments on girls who play sports, the discipline it takes to be successful, and how to manage life’s curveballs. Whether you are an avid gym member, flag football fan, or just want to know how to achieve a “natural” look, this read is for you. Get to know Flores and how she balances football, life, and her beauty routine.
Inspired by her father who formerly played high school and college football, Flores started playing flag football at 8 years old in her home city. On the field, she learned the importance of teamwork and quickly discovered the “boxes” people put young girls in regarding sports and physical aptitude. Through her journey, the Mexico City native realized the impact she would have on young women who would play a competitive sport following her. She also explained the important lesson she learned through the game.
“For me, it was all about teamwork. It is a sport that has always challenged me and still does now. It has challenged me to explore different facets of myself…Also, having the opportunity to connect with other women, to break all those barriers around girls and sports out there,” she said. “All those things made me fall in love with flag football, especially, when I get to not only demonstrate myself to the world that those “no’s” were not true,” she explained.
“Somehow I think we underestimate ourselves, even if we don’t want to, we just do. Flag football has given me the opportunity to challenge myself and realize that I can do more and overcome more situations than I think I can. The lesson I learned through football is that we [women] are more powerful than we think. So that has allowed me to trust in myself and have more confidence in my goals too,” she added.
Eighteen years later, the champion quarterback earned herself a championship in 2021, playing in the World Cup, becoming a gold medalist, and working alongside First Lady Jill Biden and the NFL as Mexico City’s flag football ambassador. Outside of her long list of achievements, Flores has also discovered her skin’s full potential, achieving clear skin on and off the field and she shared how she manages it.
Whether she travels to away games, attends a sports event, or an upscale industry event, Flores always looks stunning. Her go-to look includes lip gloss, an “au-natural” dewy glam, and a sleek ponytail (occasionally, several braids are added to the pony for an elevated look). When asked about her daily routine, Flores admitted that having a skin regimen has become helpful in saving her skin from overexposure to the sun and dirt during training and game day practices. Whether she’s on the field, at an event or at home, she is always looking radiant.
“One thing I cannot live without, that’s hard because I really love skincare that has become a daily routine for me. Especially with all of these tournaments, I get exposed to the sun a lot and to the dust by playing and training. I could say that one thing that helped me a lot is the ULTA Beauty Collection After Sun Aloe Vera Gel and CeraVe AM and PM cleansers,” she said. The ULTA Beauty Collection After Sun Aloe Vera Gel cools the skin and delivers the soothing benefits it needs. Also, to sun and first exposure, try CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 for its sunscreen and moisturizer that offers UV protection.
“I also use La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water for Sensitive Skin to refresh and soothe my skin and La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Ultra Light Face Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50, it gives me the perfect protection and a sparkle of color to my face. I also use Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops. I love it, I use it twice or three times a week because I feel that it just gives that extra glow that my skin needs too,” she explained. The Drunk Elephant D-Bronz Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops also boost skin’s elasticity.
Although she confessed to rarely using makeup because of her consistent training and game schedule, she admitted to enjoying the makeup chair during the 2022 NFL Super Bowl. While in Arizona, Flores had FENTY BEAUTY do her makeup for the pregame red carpet. A fan and consumer of FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna products herself, she shared her favorite items from the brand.
“I loved that the look was exactly what I wanted, it was perfectly glowy, literally the red carpet look that I was looking for. My favorite products from them are actually the FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters. I haven’t seen a highlighter that gives you the glow that FENTY BEAUTY does and it’s lightweight. It is just stunning. And also, what I love about FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna are the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizers and the Fenty Icon Semi-Matte Refillable Lipsticks. They last forever on your lips. I use lip glosses not only for events, but also in my daily routine,” she said.
“I also like the FENTY BEAUTY Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder. That’s my go-to. That’s what I use every day to keep oil away,” she added. The powder blurs the look of pores, absorbs shine and extends makeup wear all day.
Her daily self-care routine wouldn’t be complete without her night-time picks and ponytail sleek-rets (secrets). Flores lists some of the products that assist in her effortless look, starting with Loops Weekly Reset Rejuvenating Eye Mask to help reduce fine lines, Vichy Aqualia Thermal Hydrating Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate dull, dry skin overnight, and La Roche-Posay Effaclar Micellar Water for Oily Skin, a no-rinse face cleanser to remove dirt, oil and makeup while providing antioxidant benefits.
“I’ve [also] learned using face mask sheets before starting your routine or before getting ready for a red carpet is ideal. I really like the LOOPS Variety Loop Face Mask Set, a set of five uniquely formulated hydrogel face masks. Each mask targets an essential moment in your daily (or nightly) routine. I like these because of two things; They are super refreshing and really moisturize my face. But also I can travel with them everywhere. So, I just put them into my bag and travel everywhere. And they help to keep my face refreshed after a long travel or a long flight or look good for a red carpet night,” she said.
When it comes to her hair, she rarely wears it out, typically wearing a ponytail, or bun pulled away from her face to show off her high cheekbones. “What I use to achieve that sleek ponytail look is Bed Head’s Hair Wax Stick For Strong Hold. It helps me to keep all the baby hairs in place, and the braids to look neat. What I found is that it is more comfortable for me to play in a braided ponytail. In that way, I don’t have all these hairs over my face – especially when we are at a tournament on a sunny day and when you’re all sweaty. That just keeps everything in place. So I love that,” she said.
Flores proves that women and young girls are multidimensional and in fact, can love both beauty and the world of sports. She has served as an example of overcoming boundaries and opinions while playing flag football and most importantly, she has set a strong foundation for those looking to play flag football behind her.
