Selena Gomez didn’t land an Emmy Award nomination for Best Actress this year as many predicted for her role in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, but she did become only the second Latina nominated as a producer of a comedy series, according to Variety.

Gomez’s nomination as a producer for Best Comedy Series was announced Tuesday morning (July 12) by actors Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) who also read other top categories for the 74th Annual Emmy Awards.

Aside from Gomez, the 2022 Emmy nominations left a lot to be desired for the Latine community. Only two Latines were nominated in an acting category this year – Oscar Isaac for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series Movie for his role in HBO Max’s Scenes from a Marriage; and Colman Domingo for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Euphoria.

A total of 754 programs were submitted for Emmy Award consideration this year.

Some of the other highlights Tuesday were the Oscar Isaac-led Disney+ series Moon Knight picking up a few nominations for categories like costumes, music, and cinematography; and the documentary Luci and Desi – on the relationship between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz – earning noms in categories like directing, editing and sound.
