Sephora, Digitas, and NBCUniversal are teaming up to celebrate Latine beauty entrepreneurs with a content series titled The Foundation of Belleza. Hosted by Emmy-award-winning actress and host, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, this four-part docuseries will dive into the connections between beauty, self-care, entrepreneurship, and cultural heritage. It will also spotlight intergenerational storytelling within the Latine community.
Bailon shared her excitement for this series on Instagram writing, “So excited for this incredible project that’s coming to @peacock on November 15th… The Foundation of Belleza! Join me in this docuseries as I uncover beauty rituals passed down through Latin generations!” Fans were instantly hooked on the show concept writing, “yes yes yes! We needed this!”
The docuseries is directed by a Latine award-winning writer, director, and Dominican Republic native, Gabriela Ortega.
Ortega tells Remezcla how her artistic vision for this project came from her personal experiences. “Back home in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), I religiously went to the hair salon with my mother and sister every Saturday. It was a second home for us. I would roam around the halls with my hair wet and connect with our community.”
She continues, “I’d chit-chat with my dear Hairdresser, Fela, about life as she blew out my hair and made me feel like I could take on the world. These rituals are a core memory for me and being able to capture those memories for others by way of this project is a true gift. As Latinas, beauty is cultural, and as a director, I was thrilled to find the intersections between each founder’s story and honor them to the best of my ability.”
Ortega shared her authentic reaction to seeing the show’s billboard go live in New York on Instagram writing, “*SCREAMS IN SPANISH* 😭🇩🇴”.
The Foundation of Belleza is streaming now on Peacock.
