Actress and Voto Latino Foundation board member America Ferrera (TV’s Superstore) will co-host Every Vote Counts – A Celebration of Democracy on Thursday, October 29 at 9 p.m. EST. Ferrera will be joined by actress/singer Alicia Keys and actress Kerry Washington.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the special will air nationally on CBS and iHeartMedia radio stations, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms. It will feature several special guests, including Latinx talent like Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Wilmer Valderrama.
Also, scheduled to make an appearance are well-known personalities from both sides of the political aisle like Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, Condoleezza Rice, Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman and John Kasich, a former Ohio Republican governor who is now a vocal critic of President Trump.
“I am honored to join my co-hosts in bringing together all of these amazing artists, musicians, community leaders and American voters to celebrate our democracy,” Ferrera said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. “Our right to vote has never been more precious or vital. This celebration is an opportunity to uplift our country and to inspire one another to joyfully act on our most fundamental right and responsibility as Americans. Our vote is our voice. And Every Vote Counts.”
Last month, Ferrera and Longoria launched the voting initiative, “She Se Puede,” to urge Latinas to engage in political discourse and not to underestimate their power at the polls. The campaign was inspired by the motto “Sí se puede,” which was created by civil rights activist Dolores Huerta for the United Farm Workers of America.
