The rumor mill is spinning fast these days in the superhero universe, and it may turn out to spin a gigantic web for a couple of popular Latine actresses.

Although nothing is concrete, there are rumblings online that Sony has mentioned the name Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) for the lead role in a Spider-Woman movie. The rumors come from an alleged leak from Sony that says the studio intends to expand on their non-Marvel MCU Spider-Man universe, which already includes a couple of Venom flicks and Morbius.

News of the leak broke before Sony’s official news hit that it had cast superstar Bad Bunny in the lead role of a spin-off Spider-Man movie based on the superhero character El Muerto, a super-powered luchador.

Curiously enough, the Bad Bunny revelation was not included in the Sony leak, which apparently included already confirmed casting news like Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams returning for the third installment of Venom and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, and Ariana DeBose starring in Kraven the Hunter.

Along with the Ana de Armas rumor for Spider-Woman, which has already confirmed a director in Olivia Wilde, there is another Latine actress who also popped up on the alleged Sony wish list. For the upcoming movie Madame Webb, which stars Dakota Johnson in the title role, Jenna Ortega’s name was referenced as someone they’d like to see take on the role of a teenager named Anya Corazón. In the comics, Anya becomes Spider-Girl.

Back in 2020, Remezcla suggested that Anya join the superhero ranks as quickly as possible, so maybe this kind of fan-casting really does work. Or maybe it doesn’t since we picked Anya Taylor-Joy to land the Anya role – for obvious reasons. Either way, more Latines playing superheroes is welcomed news if it turns out to be true.
