Mexican actress Andrea Arruti, 21, has died following a respiratory complication, which slowly debilitated her body over the course of several months. As news of her death spreads, many are remembering the voice behind their favorite characters in animated series and films, such as Anne with an E, My Little Pony, Phineas y Ferb and, fittingly, League of Legends. One of her most popular characters was Elsa in Frozen.
Arruti reportedly died on January 3, but the news was not made public until this week, according to Telemundo. A few of the teams she worked with expressed their condolences and shock on social media.
Arruti is survived by her family, who shared the news on Facebook and felt the need to be transparent about the cause of death following false rumors.
“We ask that you allow us to mourn and remember her as the luminous person she was,” they wrote. “Andrea was an exemplary person.”
Emilio Treviño, who worked with Arruti on Jake and the Never Land Pirates and knew the voice actor for years, shared the news on Instagram and expressed his gratitude for the moments they shared.
“Without a doubt sometimes life surprises us in difficult and unexpected ways… to look for a why is absurd because they are answers we’ll never really have, and I don’t expect to have them,” the 20-year-old actor wrote. “You know you’ll always be my unique and irreplaceable Anne.”
