In the upcoming medieval revenge epic The Northman, actress Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) stars as Olga, a Slavic woman who becomes the romantic interest of the film’s main character Almeth (Alexander Skarsgård). Amleth is a Viking warrior prince who watched his traitorous uncle Fjölnir (Claes Bang) murdered his father when he was a boy and is now seeking vengeance.

The film is directed and co-written by Robert Eggers, whose first two films, 2015’s The Witch and 2019’s The Lighthouse, were equally as grim and ominous. Taylor-Joy, who is Argentine-British, made her acting debut in Eggers’ The Witch as Thomasin, the daughter of a Puritan family who is banished from their colony in the early 17th century and later discovers that an evil entity is living in the woods outside their new home.

In an exclusive clip from The Northman, audiences get a first glimpse of Olga and Amleth interacting with one another during one of the quieter moments in the relentlessly violent and visually stunning action film. During the scene, Olga kneels in front of Amleth and asks him if he has found something that he had been looking for.

“Did you find it – what you lost?” Olga asks. “In the house today, was it there?”

Eating food from a bowl with his fingers, Amleth answers her: “That – and more.” He then adds: “It’s a nightmare.”

Olga replies: “Then you must wake up.”

The Northman also stars Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Oscar nominees Ethan Hawke (Training Day) and Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project), and Björk (Dancer in the Dark).

The Northman debuts at theaters on April 22, 2022.
