The first season of the Prime Video series Off Campus, based on Elle Kennedy’s The Deal, the first book in the book series by the same name, has captured audiences since being released by the streamer. And an audience that devoured Heated Rivalry has now found a new hockey-related hyperfixation in the show, which in Season 1 focuses on the romance between Hannah Wells, a college student, and Garrett Graham, the cocky captain of the school’s hockey team.
But outside of Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Cameli), is there someone from our communities in Off Campus? Basically are there any Latinos in Off Campus? The answer is actually yes. Miles Gutierrez-Riley stars as Dexter, Hannah’s close friend on the show. And when you’re the protagonist in a romance such as this one, you need all the friends you can get.
Gutierrez-Riley, who is half Mexican and half Black, and who has often spoken about Spanish being his first language and his pride in his Latino heritage, isn’t exactly a new face. But it’s fair to say Off Campus is his biggest role to date. He appeared as Ivan in another Prime Video show, The Wilds, and also appeared in Smile 2 and one episode of Agatha All Along.
He also recently starred in the absurdist comedy Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is set to be released in theaters in July. The movie stars Zoey Deutch and John Hamm.
Gutierrez-Riley’s character of Dexter is expected to return for Season 2 of the show, which will primarily focus on the romance between hockey player Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kalyn) and Hannah’s best friend, Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla).
