Former New York Jets quarterback and ESPN sports commentator Mark Sanchez is the latest celebrity to be unveiled on Fox’s musical competition hit series The Masked Singer. The Mexican-American football star was the fourth act featured in the show’s fourth season. We never would have guessed an athlete was behind the “Baby Alien” act seen on Wednesday’s episode.

Sanchez wore an out-of-this-world costume during his performance. The “Baby Alien” look consisted of a get up that featured a tiny alien puppet in a round rocket ship. Sanchez was inside the costume maneuvering the puppet while singing “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons and utilizing a hilarious faux European accent. It was the first time a puppet appeared on the show.

Sanchez said it was actually quite challenging to wear the heavy costume. “After wearing it for a while, it wears on you a little bit. It’s like 40 pounds. And it positions itself on your upper chest area and lower back and shoulders, so they needed somebody with some broad shoulders to handle it. I was their guy and it worked out well,” the former NFL player told Variety.

The spectacle delighted the star-studded panel of judges including Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and special guest Joel McHale. McHale guessed that it might be a football player under the costume and thought it could have been Tom Brady. They were visibly shocked when Sanchez took off the costume.

Sanchez loved the experience so much he took to Twitter to say that he’ll now be responding to “Baby Alien” and that “being #BabyAlienMack on @MaskedSingerFOX stage was out of this world!! Who said football players don’t have pipes?!!” We’ll keep our ears open for some original music from the athlete-turned-singer and hope there will be some celestial references. Make our dreams come true, Sanchez?
