On Thursday (September 28), Prime Video rolled out the red carpet to introduce the cast of the third season of Betty La Fea, a Colombian TV series that last aired in 2001.

Betty La Fea is considered one of the most popular Latin American telenovelas ever. The series’ revival is said to pick up where the original narrative ended 22 years ago. Now, the title character, Beatriz “Betty” Aurora Pinzón Solano (Ana María Orozco), is married to Armando Mendoza Sáenz (Jorge Enrique Abello) and is enjoying life as a successful woman, mother and wife.

Along with Orozco and Sáenz reprising their roles, the cast includes Rodrigo Candamil, Juanita Molina, Julio Cesar Herrera, Luces Velásquez, Marcela Posada, Mario Duarte, Zharick León, Sebastián Osorio, Ricardo Vélez, Alberto León Jaramillo, Julián Arango, Natalia Ramírez, Lorna Cepeda and Estefanía Gómez.

When it was announced this past summer that Orozco and Sáenz would return for a third season, Orozco said the story was still a relevant one.

“Even though Betty was so advanced for its time, there’s many elements that are very much from its time, from our culture, from our idiosyncrasy, issues that now, 20 years later, we can address to have a dialogue with a modern audience,” she said. “I feel that her essence hasn’t changed, but precisely because of this, Betty surely poses many questions. She is now more mature, but life for a woman in her 40s is never an easy challenge.”

The original show from Colombia aired in 180 countries, was dubbed in 15 languages, and was adapted in more than two dozen territories, including the United States, where America Ferrera (Barbie) played the title character.
