One of the strangest awards season is over, culminating with the Oscars on Sunday night (April 25). Case and point? The Academy Awards were hosted at Union Station. Glenn Close did ‘da butt’ on live television and dropped the “F-bomb.” Frances McDormand howled onstage.

If someone had bet on any one of those things would’ve happened at last year’s Academy Awards, well that one person would be a ga-gillionaire today. Those were just some of the moments that summed up the 93rd Annual Academy Awards. Glenn Close did indeed cuss like a sailor, Union Station was host to the biggest night in Hollywood, and Frances not only won the Best Actress Oscar, she also howled while accepting the Academy Award for Best Picture (Nomadland).

In a year with canceled and postponed shows, the biggest night in Hollywood was held with an actual red carpet (with safe social distancing of course). And while the Academy Awards looked and appeared different this year, what remained the same was the fashion. Celebrities got their glam on, walked the carpet, and showed the world their style choices. Lil Rel said it best, the Oscars were “dope and uncomfortable at the same time”–and so too was the fashion. Yes, fashion like art is subjective. There were some stunning looks, cringeworthy choices, and bold decisions at last night’s show, and that isn’t even taking into consideration the three celebrities who dressed so similar one had to do a triple take.

Colman Domingo, a part of the cast for nominated film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, stole the show from jump with a hot pink Versace suit. Viola Davis wowed in a white Alexander McQueen. The Oscar-nominated actress was up for her role also in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom-she would lose the Oscar to the aforementioned howling Frances McDormand. The legendary actress is normally seen wearing bold colors, but this year the white bodice was accented with Forevermark diamond drop earrings. Her natural dewey look was perfect for her pompadour style updo.

Some stars chose to don bold colors on their first red carpet in a year. Angela Bassett wore a rich red Alberta Ferretti. The custom red crepe off the shoulder gown was complete with organza shoulders and of course, a train.

Halle Berry was berry beautiful in her Dolce and Gabbana gown. The mauve shoulderless dress showed off Berry’s fit physique. The actress debuted a new blunt bob and bangs for the occasion.

Best actress nominee Carrey Mulligan, nominated for Promising Young Woman, wore a gold sequined two-piece Valentino Haute Couture gown. The dress was stunning and similar to Zendaya’s strapless two-piece gown in yellow. Not surprising here, both dresses were done by Valentino. Where Mulligan accessorized with husband Marcus Mumford (rarely seen together), Zendaya adorned herself with jewels. The actress wore 183 carats of yellow diamond Bulgari jewels worth $6 million.

Andra Day clearly got the bare belly memo as well. The Oscar-nominated actress wore a gold cut-out dress. The gown was done by Vera Wang and was accessorized with $2 million in Tiffany jewels. Clearly the trend this year was showing off abs.

Less than a handful of Latinos were seen at the Academy Awards. In 2021, we will be seeing a lot of Rita Moreno. The Oscar-winning actress appeared on Sunday night’s telecast to present Best Picture. Rita wore a burgundy mermaid style dress to present Best Picture. Moreno, whose documentary Just a Girl Who Decided to Go For It is due out in June, wore a matching coat encrusted with jewels.
