Based on the official trailer for the third season of the hit Netflix show Cobra Kai, it looks like Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) survived his fall off the school’s balcony after an epic karate battle royale broke out at the end of season 2.

The final episode of the second season left audiences wondering if Miguel was left paralyzed after Robby (Tanner Buchanan) kicked him off the second floor causing him to land on a stair railing below. In the new trailer, it looks like Miguel still might be unable to walk but shows his sensei Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) helping him recover from the serious injury. It also looks like Robby, who disappeared after the school fight, ends up in police custody.

“The whole reason these kids got into trouble was because of us,” Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) says in the trailer. “We can’t let them suffer because of our issues. The only way to end this is by working together.”

“Working together,” of course, means working together against new Cobra Kai dojo owner John Kreese (Martin Kove), who has pushed his Cobra Kai students farther to the side of villainy. Can Daniel and Johnny put their differences aside long enough, so no one else gets hurt? In one scene in the trailer, it looks like half of that might be true as we see them team up to fight some shady looking guys inside a garage. “What are you, Tango and Cash?” Daniel’s wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) asks, referring to the 1989 buddy cop movie starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.

Maybe it’s Amanda who needs to star in the action movies since one quick scene in the trailer shows her confronting Kreese in his dojo and slapping him across the face. Mothers don’t like it when you send bullies to pick on their kids.

The trailer ends with a major teaser for season 3: the return of the characters Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita), Daniel’s love interest in The Karate Kid 2 when he travels with Mr. Miyagi to Okinawa, and Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), the troublemaking karate student who fights Daniel to the death.

Now, the only question remains is, when do we get to see the return of Ali (Elizabeth Shue) with an I?

Cobra Kai season 3 premieres on Netflix Jan. 8, 2021.
