During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mexican star Diego Luna (Rogue One) discussed his upcoming Disney+ series Andor and his most recent film, Wander Darkly, where he has a role he says allowed him to reflect on parenthood.

In the film, Luna plays Matteo, a woodworker and new father who finds himself living in an alternative universe from his wife (Sienna Miller) after they are involved in a car accident.

Luna says it felt good “to go into a film where you know the beginning and the end of the story from the moment you sign on to it” unlike his role as cartel boss Miguel Gallardo in Narcos: Mexico.

“It was nice to tell a story about love, parenthood, memory and a city I love because I have a really close relationship with Los Angeles,” Luna says. “It was important for me to do that and to play a role that was closer to me in many ways.”

While Luna is always open to more roles outside the realm of Mexican drug cartels and sci-fi space battles, he is looking forward to expanding on his Rogue One character Cassian Andor when the prequel TV series debuts in 2022.

“The way you can approach a story like this inevitably takes you into a deeper process of reflection,” Luna says. “I tend to use that word a lot. So, once you know what Cassian is capable of, then there’s room for so much exploration, and that’s something that excites me a lot as an actor.”
