If the internet is to be believed, Diego Luna has just joined the ever-growing list of “problematic faves.” The Mexican actor, known both for indie hits like Y tu mamá también and blockbusters like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has been a beloved staple of the Mexican and American movie scenes—and not just because of his adorable bromance with fellow actor Gael García Bernal. But with the latest announcement that he’ll be starring in the latest Woody Allen movie, the actor is facing some of the harshest criticisms in his career. Just as when Selena Gomez joined the same as-yet-untitled project, fans who’ve followed Luna to a galaxy far far away are voicing their discontent at the actor tacitly endorsing a writer-director who’s been accused of molestation by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, in an open letter in The New York Times.

Since that bombshell letter was published, it’s become harder for actors (whether they be Blue Jasmine‘s Cate Blanchett or Wonder Wheel‘s Kate Winslet) have had to fend off critiques that choosing to work with the 81 year old Oscar winner is tantamount to ignoring if not outright dismissing Farrow’s allegations. So, we’ll have to see how Luna, as well as his other co-stars, which include Liev Schreiber, Jude Law, Elle Fanning, and Timothée Chalamet, handle this tricky P.R. territory. In the meantime, and while we ponder what Allen will do with two Latino actors on board, let us peruse the always savage responses on Twitter from scorned Luna fans.
