Disney Developing Animated Musical Set in Colombia With Lin-Manuel Miranda & Charise Castro Smith

Colombia is getting its own Disney animated musical. While in quarantine, award-winning composer, actor, producer and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda has been writing and working alongside Disney to create an animated film set in the Latin American country.

The Hamilton creator shared the news while appearing on Good Morning America, but unfortunately didn’t disclose any details on the storyline or title.

Moana’s Byron Howard and Jared Bush will be directing alongside Cuban-American playwright and actress Charise Castro Smith who will co-direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Smith is best known for her plays Feathers and Teeth and The Hunchback of Seville. She’s written for TV shows such as Devious Maids and The Exorcist and acted in The Good Wife and Unforgettable.

In the meantime, Hamilton will premiere on Disney+ on July 3.
