Oscar-nominated actor Edward James Olmos (Stand and Deliver) has wrapped up production on the Western movie Outlaws. The film, which will be released by Quiver, will star and be directed by Mario Van Peebles (USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage).

The Outlaws cast also includes Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost), actor and comedian Cedric The Entertainer (The Neighborhood), and actors John Carroll Lynch (Fargo), William Mapother (Another Earth), and M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple).

According to Deadline, Outlaws tells the story of a renegade cowboy named Chief (Van Peebles), who assembles a diverse team of bandits to go on a dangerous cross-country journey to recover some gold from an abandoned mine.

“I wanted to make a fresh kickass Western like we’ve never seen, a savvy action adventure with pluck served up in a dirty glass!” Van Peebles told Deadline. “I knew I’d need a gregarious band of producers to go on this rough and tumble journey with me, and the team at Quiver was ready for the ride!”

In a joint statement, Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman, co-presidents of Quiver Distribution, said they were ready to deliver a fun movie with Van Peebles leading the way. “We’re thrilled to partner with Mario and this epic ensemble cast for a one-of-a-kind action-adventure set in the west, at the dawn of America’s Age of Invention,” the duo said. “We can’t wait for audiences to saddle up for this action-packed, wild adventure.”

Next up for Edward James Olmos is the action movie One Fast Move about a soldier looking for his father, so he can reach his dream of racing Supersport motorcycles.
