Welcome to Casa Madrigal, the setting of Encanto, the newest enchanted adventure from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film follows the Madrigal family, who lives in a small town in the mountains of Colombia where children are granted magical powers. Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) wrote eight original songs for the movie.

In the latest teaser trailer for the film, audiences get a chance to see the star of the story, Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz), the only person in this town without magical abilities — which for others, includes making inanimate objects move and superhuman strength. In one scene, a Latina is powerlifting two pianos. In another, a kid is using his abilities to befriend wild animals. There’s also a character who can shapeshift into other people.

Mirabel, however, is considered “ordinary,” although, from the trailer, it looks like she might have some talent playing the accordion. As one character puts it, she is the “only Madrigal kid with no gift.” Yet, Mirabel chooses to look at herself differently: “Gift or no gift, I’m just as special as the rest of my family,” the animated character says in the trailer.

The trailer gives viewers a more in-depth look at the details of the film: from the catchy tunes to the beautiful outdoor scenery with majestic trees and vivid flowers and foliage.

Miranda’s father, Luis A. Miranda, Jr., tweeted that it was a “treat and honor” to get to see Encanto come to life.

Many people were excited to see that the new film features characters that look like them and all the diverse representation. People are also praising the fact that this story shows more to Colombia than the war on drugs storyline.

Others were also thrilled about the buff Latina character, who is seen picking up heavy objects throughout the trailer.

Encanto will debut at theaters on November 24, 2021.
