Actress, producer, and director Eva Longoria (Sylvie’s Love) is set to star and executive produce the Apple TV+ series Land of Women. The six-episode series is inspired by author Sandra Barneda’s 2014 best-selling novel La tierra de las mujeres.

According to Deadline, Longoria will play a mother named Gala, who is “forced to flee her home after her husband implicates the family in financial improprieties.” Joining Longoria in the film is Spanish actress Carmen Maura (Volver) as Gala’s mother who, along with Gala’s daughter, escape to a town in Northern Spain where they adopt new identities.

“Thrilled to be a part of Land of Women and co-star alongside the iconic Carmen Maura,” Longoria wrote on social media. “España, nos vemos pronto!”

Ramón Campos (Gran Hotel) and Gema R. Neira (Now and Then) created the series, which will be directed by Carlos Sedes (Now and Then). It is currently in pre-production in Spain.

On Instagram, several fellow Latine celebrities congratulated Longoria on her new gig, including singer and actor Ricky Martin (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) and actors Mario Lopez (Saved by the Bell), Emilio Rivera (Mayans M.C.), Dania Ramirez (Sweet Tooth), and Leonor Varela (Alpha).

Next up for Eva Longoria is the coming-of-age film Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe based on the YA novel of the same name. The film does not have a release date yet. Longoria will also make her directorial feature film debut with Flamin’ Hot, a biopic about the inventor of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. It, too, is not currently on the release calendar.
