The best-selling children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is getting a cinematic reboot on Disney+.

Eight years after Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner starred in a film adaptation of author Judith Viorst’s story, the new version of the movie will feature a Latine cast. First on board for the family adventure are Eva Longoria (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) and George Lopez (Lopez Tonight).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this movie adaptation of the book will follow a Mexican American family who go on a road trip to reconnect with each other and their Latine roots. Longoria will play Alexander’s mother, a travel writer who has become disinterested in her work. Lopez will play the family’s tough, motorcycle-riding grandfather. The film will be directed by Marvin Lemus (Gentefied) and written by Matt Lopez (Father of the Bride).

Longoria will next be seen in the Apple TV+ miniseries Land of Women, which she also executive produces. The show is adapted from the best-selling novel La tierra de las mujeres by Sandra Barneda. In the series, Longoria plays Gala, a woman who escapes to Spain with her daughter and mother after her husband gets involved in some shady financial dealings. Next year, Longoria will release her directorial feature Flamin’ Hot, about a Frito Lays janitor who claims to have invented the popular, spicy snack.

Lopez will star in the NBC sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez with his real-life daughter Mayan early next month. Like Longoria, his stock will continue to rise when he stars in the DC superhero movie Blue Beetle alongside Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai).
