A modern take on the hit Mexican horror/sci-fi anthology series La Hora Marcada, which originally aired in the 1980s and 1990s, is coming to ViX.

The original series, which is often compared to The Twilight Zone, included a central presence known as “The Woman in Black,” who appeared in each episode and decided the fate of the characters. “The stories were original and sought to convey fear to the audience while dealing with science fiction, horror or fantasy themes,” a press release from ViX reads.

A handful of Oscar-winning film professionals actually got their start on the horror and sci-fi show, which originally aired in the 1980s and 1990s, including directors and writers Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) and Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (The Revenant).

Now, a new generation of Latin American horror writers and directors will deliver nine frightening stories that are sure to give viewers a few sleepless nights. For the reboot, several Latin American writers including Abia Castillo, Freddy Chávez, Josh Candia, Luis Reséndiz, Ramiro García Bogliano, and Tomás Downey, took scripts from the original series and updated them for a 21st-century audience.

In an exclusive teaser trailer shared with Remezcla today, ViX sets a spine-chilling tone with images of a creaky grandfather clock, vintage photographs, and an old TV that is only broadcasting static and creepy pictures. When the static clears up slightly, the title of the series appears on the screen.

The teaser continues with more disturbing images like toy dolls bleeding from their eyes, shadows, a creepy rocking chair moving on its own, a set of doctor’s tools that might be found in an operation room and the return of “The Woman in Black.”

We’ll see how scary things get when La Hora Marcada premieres on ViX this October 2023.
