Amazon Freevee has teamed up with Shea Serrano and Michael Schur to create a new, single-camera comedy series following around a 16-year-old Latine kid growing up in southern San Antonio. Titled Primo, it’s inspired by Serrano’s upbringing and encompasses an incredible Latine cast to tell the story.
Rafa, who is played by Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and is the lead of the show, is a high schooler who is trying to figure out his life while dealing with pressures from his family. Like so many Latine teenagers, Rafa is raised by a large family, including his mother, Andrea, and his five overbearing uncles Rollie, Mike, Ryan, Jay, and Mondo.
Serrano’s Primo also stars Johnny Rey Diaz (Grey’s Anatomy), Christina Vidal (The Terminal List, Taina), Henri Esteve (Grown-ish, Homecoming), Martin Martinez (Magnum P.I.), Jonathan Medina (The Purge), Carlos Santos (Gentefied), Nigel Siwabessy (Stop the Bleeding!), Efrain Villa (Better Call Saul), and Stakiah Lynn Washington (Everything is Both).

Tbh, seeing this kind of Latine love on screen is everything. We’ve all been Rafa in some way or another, with a Latine family screaming with excitement whenever you do anything or giving us the judgemental mom glance if we mess. Even the way the tíos in the show represent the various kinds of tíos that exist within our communities but still have your back is refreshing. The same thing goes for the group of friends that remind us of why we loved seeing shows like On My Block and Freeridge. Now we have Primo.
Stay tuned as we learn more about when we can expect to see Primo on Amazon Freevee!
