Chespirito: Sin querer queriendo has been on the media headlines lately. The new series has brought to light conflicting POV’s surrounding the late Roberto Gómez Bolaños and his wife, Florinda Meza’s, past relationship as told by his son from his first marriage. Since then, Meza has been publicly talking about the situation and dispelling rumors.
Many know Meza’s character Doña Florinda, from the iconic TV series El Chavo del Ocho, which starred Chespirito (Gómez Bolaños). But after HBO Max’s Chespirito: Sin querer queriendo began airing, the couple’s past relationship is making new headlines, especially as eagle-eyed social media users have been reposting old, controversial interviews of the pair. An example is the now-viral interview where Meza calls Gómez Bolaños’ then-wife and children “defectos,” which caused a stir online.
In a recent string of social media posts, Meza wrote the following about her late husband. “Roberto was a great leader and on the set there were no complaints and cheap arguments. We worked hard and we also had fun,” she wrote online in Spanish. “The good people who have always followed him, know this to be true. The rest is a fictional melodrama that unfortunately seeks scandal to sell.”
She continued: “This is not about me, it is about you and the legacy of a great man who is no longer here to defend himself. Nothing that those who did betray Roberto or those who only want money will say will change the treasure that millions carry in their hearts.”

The Mexican actress also revealed that despite rumors, she hasn’t filed any lawsuits against the series but that she “hasn’t decided” what to do in the future. She wrote that many people have brought to light old interviews and archives without context that are now being used against her. “In real life, with human beings, not with soap opera characters, there are many things to consider,” she wrote on the post.
In a second video, she posted saying she thought that the series Mentiras (alluding to the Mentiras: la series on Amazon Prime Video) was on a different platform, but that “sin querer quierendo, las mentiras, están en su MAXima expresión,” seemingly calling out the series’ streaming platform HBO Max.
While we don’t know Meza’s next move, we know that she has plans to reveal her own documentary next month. Titled Atrévete a vivir, the first trailer appeared on Despierta America and will tell her version of events.

Javi Domz, the producer of the documentary said he started filming in 2020 and that it’s not meant to be a piece of vengeance of to contestant the HBO Max series.
He told Despierta America, “The premieres were a coincidence, because we knew the series was premiering in June. So we said, “We have to wait a couple of months.” And we didn’t know that an episode was going to premiere every week, then coincidentally they finished and in two weeks we were already on the air.”
According to El Sol de Mexico, the documentary is the first in the country too use artifical intelligence and is set to premiere in August.
