Jennifer Lopez has new castmates for her upcoming Netflix project, and let’s say that it has the motherload of Latine talent. The Mother stars Lopez as an assassin who comes out from hiding to save the daughter she gave up long ago. Along for the ride on this deadly thriller is fellow Latine actor Gael García Bernal. Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, and newcomer Lucy Paez have also joined the cast.

The Mother is the first feature in a long line of announced projects under a partnership with Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and Netflix. Not only is Lopez starring in the project, but she also serves as a producer for the film.

Other projects under her production company include The Cipher. That project is based on a book by the same name penned by Isabel Ojeda. Lopez is rumored to be the lead of that film as well. In it, she is an FBI agent who is being hunted by a serial killer.

Fans last saw Gael García Bernal in Old, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Up next for Bernal is the role of Salvador Dali in “The Playboy Interview” podcast. When he spoke with Remezcla earlier this summer, he was excited about the project. “That was very fun to do. I have not listened to it, but I know that it’s been announced. Let’s see how my Catalan-speaking accent goes along. I hope it’s good,” Bernal said.

As for Lopez, she has two projects set to release soon. First up is Shotgun Wedding, which wrapped filming this spring. That movie is due to hit theaters on June 29 and stars Josh Duhamel. Her other project, Marry Me, starring Owen Wilson, premieres next Valentine’s Day 2022.

As for The Mother, it’s scheduled for a 2022 release.
