It looks like actor Gael García Bernal (Old) could use a bit of a shave in the first official trailer for his upcoming Marvel Halloween special Werewolf by Night. We jest, of course. The film features Bernal in the title role, a Marvel character who first appeared in comic books in 1972.

Directed by Michael Giacchino, the Academy Award-winning composer behind Pixar animated feature films such as UpRatatouille, and Inside OutWerewolf by Night will be Marvel’s first-ever TV special.

“Well, gang, here we go – the first trailer for the Marvel Studios special I directed,” Giacchino tweeted with a link to the trailer. “Been waiting since I was ten years old to make something like this! Enjoy!!”

The trailer for the TV special, which debuted at the D23 Expo on Saturday (September 10), looks like it’s shot as classic black and white monster movies from the 1930s, like DraculaFrankenstein, and The Mummy. Bernal stars as Jack Russell (yes, like the dog breed), a man who transforms into a werewolf because of a family curse.

“This Halloween, you can’t escape the shock, the terror of Werewolf by Night,” a narrator says at the beginning of the trailer, which features an old-school horror movie title card.

In the trailer, Jack is at an estate where it seems like he is getting ready to go on a hunt with a group of men. A woman named Verrusa (Harriet Sansom Harris) tells them that “it is every hunter for themselves…But, one of you is a monster masquerading as one of our own. I can’t wait to find out what breed of evil you are.”

Verrusa soon finds out when a werewolf-ied Bernal, held inside a cage, grabs her. The trailer then cuts to images of the werewolf lashing out at attackers and screaming in pain. “Please don’t do this,” Jack says.

In the final scenes, Jack is pulled into the brush by a massive werewolf arm and incapacitates a group of men trying to destroy him. Later, we see the shadowy transformation of Jack as a scared woman named Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly) looks on in fear.

Werewolf by Night will premiere on Disney+ on October 7.
