Gloria Calderón Kellett’s (One Day at a Time) career has come first circle. The showrunner is directing multiple episodes for the second season of the Hulu original sitcom How I Met Your Father, a spin-off of How I Met Your Mother. Calderón Kellett’s first credited job in Hollywood in 2007 was as a co-producer on How I Met Your Mother.

On Wednesday (January 11), Calderón Kellett posted a photo of herself with the cast of How I Met Your Father, including actress Francia Raisa. “Full circle moment directing the exquisite cast of [How I Met Your Father] – new episodes coming January 24!”

Industry friends reacted positively to the news, including actress Constance Marie (With Love), Paula Garces (On My Block), and Juliana Joel (Raven’s Home). “Yes, congratulations,” Garces commented on Instagram. “That’s awesome, amazing, woohoo.”

In How I Met Your Father, the audience follows the main character Sofie (Hilary Duff), as her older self (Kim Cattrall) narrates and tells her son the story of how she met his father. From the Hulu synopsis, the series “catapults us back to the present, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”

The first trailer for season two of How I Met Your Father, which was released on Tuesday (January 10), starts with Sofie and her best friend Valentina (Raisa) agreeing that their current lives are “trash” and “trainwrecks.” Valentina’s love life doesn’t look so bad, however. She and Charlie (Tom Ainsley) can’t seem to quit each other. The trailer also introduces John Corbett (Sex and the City) as Sofie’s new love interest.

We’ll see how the group of friends maneuvers their way through the second season when the first episode premieres on Hulu on January 24, 2023.
