The more entertainment during these times, the better and Disney+ knows that. The streaming giant has bumped up the release of the filmed version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s stage musical, Hamilton. Originally to be released on October 15, 2021 in theaters and then on Disney+, it will now be released on July 3, 2020.

When Miranda announced the initial release of a filmed adaptation of the Broadway show on February 3, he also shared that Disney would be the home for the award-winning stage musical turned film. For those who missed Hamilton with its original Broadway cast, this filmed performance — which captures the best elements of live theater, film, and streaming — is a rare chance to see why Miranda’s show so captivated audiences. Filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June of 2016, Hamilton features Tony Award winners Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler and Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr.

“No other artistic work in the last decade has had the cultural impact of Hamilton — an inspiring and captivating tale told and performed in a powerfully creative way. In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” Robert A. Iger, Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company said.

“We are thrilled to bring this phenomenon to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we have the brilliant Lin-Manuel Miranda and the team behind ‘Hamilton’ to thank for allowing us to do so more than a year before planned.”

Hamilton will be available to stream on Disney+ July 3, 2020.
