Production on the indie film In the Summers has wrapped, and the first photos from the project starring artist René “Residente” Pérez Joglar, Leslie Grace (In the Heights), and Sasha Calle (The Flash) have just been released.

According to Deadline, In the Summers, which is written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Alessandra Lacorazza, follows Latina sisters, Eva (Calle) and Violeta (Lío Mehiel), who visit their father (Pérez Joglar) each summer but are torn by their relationship with him because of his battle with addiction.

“Alessandra is a visionary filmmaker and her script for In the Summers profoundly spoke to our mission at Exile to create content that uplifts Latin voices and tells rich, diverse stories,” Nando Vila, Head of Exile Content Studio, told Deadline.

Not much is known about Grace’s character besides that her name is Yenny. In the Summers marks the acting debut of Residente. In one of the first-look photos, Calle and Mehiel are seen standing against a wall and smiling at one another. In another, Residente is seen sitting next to Grace inside a messy home. Both look very unhappy. There’s also a photo of Residente, Calle, and Mehiel looking a lot happier while standing on the beach.

“Blessed to make part of this family portrait of yours, [Alessandra],” Grace wrote on social media.

Although this is Residente’s acting debut, he is not a stranger to the film industry. He directed his self-titled feature documentary, Residente, a few years ago. In the film, he travels across the globe to examine his complex cultural heritage, which he learned about after taking a DNA test.

In the Summers also stars Dreya Renae Castillo, Kimaya Thais, Luciana Quinonez, Allison Salinas, Emma Ramos, Sharlene Cruz, Gabriela Surodjawan and Indigo Montez.
