Update (6/11/24): According to the Associated Press, the viral banners for House of the Dragon are computer generated.

House of the Dragon banners are going viral after the HBO drama took season 2 promotion to another level by having different landmarks worldwide pick sides between Team Black and Team Green. The second season of the show, a prequel to Game of Thrones, premieres Sunday, June 16th on HBO.

In the show, which centers on the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, the chosen heir to King Viserys Targaryen, Rhaenyra Targaryen, the Leader of Team Black, sees her younger brother, Aegon Targaryen, the Leader of Team Green, seize the throne and proclaim himself King based on the fact that he is the oldest male heir of King Viserys. This pits family against family and oh yes, they all have dragons.

Mexico stands with Queen Rhaenrya, as Chapultepec Castle proudly flew black banners.

Brazil, meanwhile, has declared for King Aegon II on a cable car heading to Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain).

In the United States, New York was very much split between Team Green and Team Black, with the Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge flying Team Green banners, while the Manhattan Bridge flew Team Black banners. In Spain, meanwhile, two of the biggest locations for House of the Dragon filming also picked sides between Team Black and Team Green, with San Juan de Gaztelugatxe going with Queen Rhaenyra and Cáceres with King Aegon II.

HBO has also made it possible for fans to pick their own side, with a website that makes it possible for fans to pick their allegiance and create a character poster that can be shared online.
