The First Full Trailer for Pedro Almodovar’s ‘Julieta’ Proves That He’s the Master of Melancholy

After leaving us with a rather enigmatic Spanish-language teaser earlier this year, Almodóvar and his production company El deseo have finally released an international trailer for his upcoming feature Julieta.

Unlike the previous short teaser, the new one-and-a-half-minute trailer gives us a general sense of the film’s plot, but somehow manages to keep everything just as confusing. After all, it is Almodóvar, and beyond a suggestion of secrets and looming mystery, a bold and symbolically-charged color palette, and images of beautiful women in a state of emotional crisis set to the melancholy vocals of Chavela Vargas’ “Si no te vas,” we really can’t make heads or tails of this one. Which means we’re probably going to be treated to yet another classic Almodóvar outing. Fans should have plenty of reason to rejoice.

There is no word yet on an official U.S. release date from distributor Sony Pictures, but Julieta will be hitting Spanish cinemas on April 8, 2016.
