Jenna Ortega, Camila Mendes, and Danny Ramirez are teaming up for A24’s upcoming film Alba.

The three high-profile Latine actors are all riding highs from hit projects, including Wednesday, Riverdale, and Top Gun: Maverick, becoming some of the most sought actors in Hollywood. Now they’re coming together for an adaptation of the play The House of Bernarda Alba by Frederico García Lorca according to IndieWire.

Alba will be set on the outskirts of Miami to update the original plot, which takes place in rural Spain. In the film, Ortega and Mendes will play, what we assume due to the plot, two of the five daughters of the titular character Bernarda Alba.

Alba is a widower who enacts an eight-year mourning period after her husband’s death. During this time, her daughters are forbidden from being in public or dating men, except for Alba’s oldest daughter. The oldest daughter is set to marry a rich man and as the wedding approaches the rest of the daughters start to fight back against their mother’s smothering hold on their lives.

It isn’t clear who is playing which character but one can only assume that Ramirez will be playing the soon-to-be-husband of Alba’s eldest daughter. The family’s most intimate and emotional moments will be on display for viewers as they watch the family try to live under the heavy experience of mourning while fighting for freedom.

A24 has seen a string of successes, including Midsommar and Everything Everywhere All At One. By tapping into three of the hottest Latine actors in Hollywood today, the film studio is putting some serious thought into who they are casting. They’re also putting thought as to whose directing Francisca Alegria, the director of the critically acclaimed The Cow Who Sang A Song Into the Future.

There is no set date for filming but there will surely be more on that coming soon. But we can’t wait to see what Jenna Ortega, Camila Mendes, Danny Ramirez, and the studio have in store for us.
