Jenna Ortega, director Tim Burton and the rest of the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cast received a warm and colorful welcome from Mexico City on Tuesday (August 13) during their press tour for the highly anticipated sequel.

The film’s global press tour kicked off at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mexico City with vibrant backdrops and arches and a variety of multicolored flowers to liven up the event. There was even someone dressed as an underworld ghoul posing as a mariachi. We’re going to guess the mariachi ghost’s favorite request is to sing Rocío Dúrcal’s “Amor Eterno.”

Ortega was dressed in a strapless tulle dress with a black sequined pattern by Vivienne Westwood and a pair of black platform shoes by Steve Madden. Along with Ortega and Burton, other talent from the production who were in attendance included Michael Keaton, who reprises his role as the title character form the original 1988 movie, Monica Belluci and Justin Theroux.

According to the film’s official synopsis, some of the original characters reunite “after an unexpected family tragedy.” Ortega plays Lydia’s (Winona Ryder) rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, who accidentally opens a portal to unleash Beetlejuice into the real world once again.

“We want to keep movie theaters alive and we want people to watch … with their parents and with their friends,” Ortega said during the press conference. “You can watch it with your dogs.”

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice press tour wasn’t the only Beetlejuice event taking place in Mexico City in recent weeks. The cast of Beetlejuice: The Musical also debuted their stage production in the capital city on August 7th.

Honestly, we haven’t seen this much action in the cinematic afterlife in Mexico since Coco! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters nationwide on September 6, 2024.
