As she made the rounds this month doing press for her new series Wednesday, actress Jenna Ortega dressed the part and embraced her inner Wednesday Addams.
Not only did she speak passionately about the project – a Netflix show that follows the adventures of the eldest child of the Addams Family – she also expressed her love for the character with the choices she made in her gothic-style outfits.
The press tour seems to be a hit. On Tuesday (November 29), Netflix officially announced Wednesday broke the record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series. And from her first-ever appearance on a late-night TV talk show to the pages of magazines, there are some “kooky, spooky and ooky” looks Ortega gave fans that have left them shook.
First, Ortega showed up to the Wednesday premiere dressed in a black gown and veil by Versace. “It just felt right,” Ortega told Access Hollywood from the red carpet. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ortega said that her character Wednesday “would appreciate the veil” and the fact that she wore an all-black ensemble. “I felt like if I was gonna wear black like everyone else, I probably should make a deal out of it,” Ortega said.
Ortega showed up in Manhattan to promote Wednesday on some of the network morning shows dressed in a black pantsuit, tie, and long coat. The coat was accented on the inside with leopard-print lining. If leopard print doesn’t scream fierce, we don’t know what does.
Ortega’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! marked the first time she’s ever been a guest on a late-night talk show. The actress walked out on the set wearing a long-sleeved black dress with a high slit and a lacy bodysuit undergarment that covered only her left leg.
Ortega went a bit grungy/goth during a photo shoot for the British magazine The Face. The photo spread included images of Ortega wearing a short black dress with long white socks and sneakers. Her eyeshadow was applied generously and, in her hands, she carried a white chihuahua. In another photo, Ortega gave off Reservoir Dogs vibes when she wore a white, long-sleeve dress shirt, black slacks, and a skinny black tie. Her overall disheveled aesthetic was the perfect look for the indie magazine.
Finally, Ortega showed up to the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television wearing a sheer body wrap that covered everything but her neckline and left shoulder, and arm. It was mostly see-through and left fans reeling at how statuesque she looked.
Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, is now available on Netflix.
