Awards season is here, for better or worse. And that means that just as Hollywood prepares for Oscars nominations, the one award that celebrates (or mocks) the worst movies of the year has also announced its nominations — with some familiar names from our communities making the list. Basically, it’s time for the Golden Raspberry Awards, colloquially known as the Razzies.

Jennifer Lopez, Ana de Armas, and Salma Hayek are among the Latinas nominated for this year’s Razzies. All three are nominated in the Worst Actress category, with Lopez making the list for the Netflix movie The Mother, while de Armas joins her for the Apple TV+ rom-com Ghosted. Hayek rounds off the list for her performance in Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

Ana de Armas and Salma Hayek are also nominated in the worst screen couple category. Ana de Armas alongside Chris Evans for Ghosted, and Hayek alongside Channing Tatum for the aforementioned Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Jennifer Lopez has been nominated for 10 Razzies before in her career, ironically winning for both her performance in Gigli and as worst screen couple in that movie, in which she starred with her husband Ben Affleck. Hayek had also been nominated before, twice, in 2000 for Dogma and in 2014 for Grown Ups 2. This is Ana de Armas’ first Razzies nomination.

This is the 44th edition of the awards, which were founded in 1981. The “winners” of the Razzies will coincidentally be announced on March 9th, one day before the Oscars ceremony.

As for the internet, well, its response to the Razzies is pretty clear. It doesn’t care all that much, with comments accusing the Razzies of using Lopez for clout and being irrelevant in 2024.

But there was that lone person congratulating Lopez for the achievement.

And then some calling out the Razzies of “racism and desperation.”
