Johanne Sacreblu came, they saw, and they conquered. The Emilia Pérez parody that encapsulates much of the criticism about the film that leads the Oscars Nominations race this year, is now set for a theatrical run. Content creator Camila Aurora, the creative mind behind the short film, announced the news on social media.

“Johanne Sacreblu is a reality on screens, you did it. Cinedot is going to officially screen Johanne Sacreblu,” Aurora announced on social media in Spanish. The content creator also announced that when the short film premieres in theaters it will be an updated version, with a new song. And that they have plans to expand into a feature film with a casting call in the works.

The Cinedot movie theater chain has approximately 120 movie theaters in Mexico. And the film will be airing February 14, 2025. Tickets can be bought here.*

Emilia Pérez stars Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón, who made history as the first out trans performer ever to be nominated for an Oscar. However, the movie has been criticized for trivializing the topic of the “Desaparecidos” or missing due to the cartels in Mexico. The movie, which only premiered in Mexico on January 23rd features only one Mexican actor (Adriana Paz), in a relatively small role.

Making fun of the way Emilia Pérez attempts to tell a Mexican story from a Eurocentric lens, Johanne Sacreblu, by Aurora and screenwriter Héctor Guillén, tells a story of France that is brimming with stereotypes — and doesn’t feature any French actors. In it, the heiress to the biggest baguette producer in France, a trans woman named Johanne Sacreblu, falls in love with Agtugo Ratatouille, a trans man who is the heir to the biggest croissant producer in France.

The short film, which features original music, sees the two conquer their family’s bitter rivalry, and fix racism, of course. Johanne Sacreblu was posted on YouTube a few days ago, on January 25, and it’s already got almost 2 million views.

Aurora also recently released Johanne Sacreblu merch. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the merch will go to organizations that support families of the missing in Mexico and endangered groups.
