This is not a drill: Juan Gabriel’s iconic Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes [Juan Gabriel: My First Bellas Artes] is coming to U.S. theaters. On July 6, Sony Music announced that the remastered release of the historic concert will be available in Mexico, Latin America, and the U.S. starting on Aug. 28. The legendary concert’s recording took place at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Mexico, from May 9 to 12, 1990.
“No matter the score, there’s one thing that always brings us together: singing together. Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes. August 28. Only at Cinemex. ❤️🎤🎬,” Cinemex announced online in Spanish. “Pre-sale: July 28.”
Aligning with JuanGa’s 10th death anniversary, Sony will now release a re-edited and remastered version of Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes, led by María José Cuevas. Cuevas was the director and visual artist who spearheaded Netflix’s four-part docuseries Juan Gabriel: Debo, Puedo y Quiero, or Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will.
According to the press release, the upcoming release is a “reimagined new version, fully restored film and now mixed in Dolby Atmos” that will be shown in more than 250 theaters in Mexico, as well as selected locations in the U.S. and Latin America. In Mexico, presale tickets will be available on July 28.
Although the U.S. locations are yet to be announced, the production will be distributed by Cinemex Alternativo. Cinemex Alternativo is owned by Cinemex. With this in mind, the selected theaters could be CMX Cinemas, which Cinemex also owns.
