Are you that person that everyone gathers around at the family barbecue eager for you to make them laugh? How about that funny gal that watches One Day at a Time and thinks, “I should be on that show!” Now is your chance to get on the big stage and show everyone why the comedy world needs someone like you.

HBO Latino and the New York Latino Film Festival are presenting the Second Annual Latino Stand-Up Comedy Competition and are currently searching for those Latinx comedians across the country who can bring their A game.

“I’m just glad quarantine hasn’t shut everything down,” said 2019 co-winner Alex Carabaño during a video phone call with fellow co-winner Mark Viera.

Other Latinx comedians like Gina Brillón and Orlando Leyba also chimed in on the video call to encourage fellow comedians to send in their audition tape. “Take the risk and submit,” Brillón says in the video. “Take that leap of faith.”

Full contest rules can be found at NYLatinoFilmFestival.com, but know that submission videos must be uploaded by Friday, November 13, 2020 by 11:59 p.m. (EST). The three to five-minute stand-up performance, which can be in English or in English and Spanish, cannot be something that was previously broadcast anywhere.

Five finalists will be chosen to perform an eight to 10-minute virtual stand-up show in early December and the winner will be chosen that same evening. The Latinx comedian crowned champion will be added to the lineup of an Entre Nos comedy special airing on HBO Max in 2021.
