HBO has released the official full-length trailer for Like Water for Chocolate (Como agua para Chocolate), the series based on the book by Mexican writer Laura Esquivel. The show is set to debut on November 3rd on both Max and HBO, with new episodes streaming weekly.
The trailer of the Spanish-language show gives us a glimpse at key moments from the story. Those moments include the first meeting between Tita (Azul Guaita) and Pedro (Andrés Baida), the love of her life, who her mother refuses to let her marry. We also get a first-look at the family matriarch Mamá Elena and of course, some time in the kitchen, where Tita pours her feelings into every dish she prepares, with those feelings then being passed to whoever eats the food.
“Are you really my mother?” Tita confronts Mamá Elena at one point, after learning that she has declined Pedro’s request to marry Tita and instead consented to a marriage between Pedro and her other daughter, Rosaura, because Tita, as the youngest daughter, is meant to stay and take care of her until she dies. “Maybe one day we can be together,” Pedro says near the end of the trailer. “Maybe one day we can have the life we want.”
In the meantime, Tita will continue cooking.

Considered one of the best showcases of magical realism, Laura Esquivel’s Like Water for Chocolate (Como agua para Chocolate), was previously adapted into a 1992 movie.
Like Water for Chocolate is executive produced by Salma Hayek Pinault, among others. Francisco Javier Royo Fernández serves as executive producer and head writer. The show’s other writers are María Jaén and Jimena Gallardo. The show is directed by Julián de Tavira and Analorena Perezríos.
Guaita is known for her leading role as Jana Cohen in Netflix’s Rebelde and other shows like La Mujer del Diablo and Mi marido tiene familia. And Baida starred in shows like Who Killed Sara? and Mi secreto.
