Actresses and singers Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) and Eiza González (Godzilla vs. Kong) have released a new song from their upcoming animated film Spirit Untamed.

The song, which is sung in both English and Spanish by Merced and González, is titled “Fearless” (“Valiente”) and is about the courage it takes to stand tall and know who you are.

In the film, Merced lends her voice to the character Lucky Prescott, a young, mixed-Latina girl who grew up without her mother, Milagro Navarro (González), who was a legendary charra. Spirit Untamed is a sequel to the 2002 Oscar-nominated animated film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. It is also based on the 2017 Netflix series Spirit Riding Free.

Merced starts the song with the Spanish lyrics, “Oye el viento cantar/Mira el águilar volar” (“Hear the wind sing/Watch the eagle fly”). “Siente el sol en tu piel/Y en tu camino, ve con fe” (“Feel the sun on your skin/And on your way, go with faith”).

González then joins in with, “Y si la noche fría esta en tu corazón/Un fuego siempre habrá” (“And if the cold night is in your heart/There will always be a fire.”)

The duet then switches to English where Merced and González sing about strength and bravery. “Wild heart, wild soul/Roam free to the unknown/And know that you have everything you need,” they sing in harmony.
What we definitely need more of are duets performed by Merced and González. As musicians, Merced released her debut EP, The Better Half of Me, in 2019. González has released two studio albums, 2010’s Contracorriente and 2012’s Te Acordarás de Mí.

Spirit Untamed debuts at theaters June 4.
