Liza Colón-Zayas Receives First Emmy Nomination of Her Career for ‘The Bear’

Liza Colón-Zayas in The Bear

FX

Liza Colón-Zayas is an Emmy Nominee. The Afro-Latina actress, who plays Tina Marrero in FX‘s The Bear, was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Category for the 2024 Emmys.

Joining her in the category is Carol Burnett for Palm Royale, Hanna Einbinder for Hacks, Janelle James for Abbott Elementary, Sheryl Lee Ralph, also for Abbott Elementary, and Meryl Streep,  for Only Murders in the Building.

The show recently returned for its third season, though the eligibility for this year’s Emmy nominations is specifically for The Bear’s second season, which was released in 2023. That means Colón-Zayas has not yet been nominated for Tina’s breakthrough third-season episode, “Napkins.” That will technically be a matter for next year’s Emmys nominations, which means we will at least have a lot more to look forward to from Liza Colón-Zayas during awards season.

In The Bear, Colón-Zayas, who is Puerto Rican, plays Tina, who goes from a disgruntled cook just getting by in a restaurant that isn’t going to change to someone who goes to culinary school and is promoted to sous chef.

Reacting to Colón-Zayas’s nomination was one of jubilation, with people rightfully celebrating her as an Emmy-nominated actress.

And even saying “we won,” because she was nominated.

All in all, a good day.

The 2024 Television Academy Emmys broadcast live on Sunday, September 15 on ABC at 8 p.m. EST and the next day on Hulu.
